The equipment options available to golfers in the modern age is incredible. The variety of shapes, sizes and the individual physical makeup of golfers is even more diverse. It can easily be said that like a pair of shoes, a suit, or dress, the custom nature of how something fits you, will affect the way you feel and behave. Below is the list of custom options that I can fit in your golf clubs, and the way in which each option can affect your golf game. Then imagine getting this information without getting leaned on to buy a $3000 set of clubs by your club fitter. For a fair price I can provide you with valid information that you can use to purchase what you want, when you are ready. I can also order what you want from most manufacturers.
Club Length:
If a golf club doesn't fit between you and the ground, the chance that you will react to it in a negative way will be very high. Bad ball position, lifting up, losing your posture, and swinging in a wrong direction are all compensations for wrong club length. Length is the most important aspect to consider when buying new equipment, or when refitting your existing clubs. Length will be dictated by the measurement from your fingertip to the ground while standing erect. Club repair methods allow us to shorten or lengthen a current club approximately +/- 1".
Lie Angle:
Complimentary to club length is the angle that the sole of the club lies on the ground. Lie angle can provoke a lifting or dropping of the hands at address, and standing too close or too far away can also result. The lie angle directly influences where the club face is pointed when it strikes the ball, so in affect either starts the golf ball on target, or doesn't. Refitting the lie angle of your current clubs is sometimes an option, and I have that technology. Certainly, buying a set with the correct lies would be prudent anytime you are replacing irons or wedges.
Club Loft:
The angle of the club face as it relates to the ground and the target line. The club's loft directly influences how far the ball will go, and how much backspin will be on it. Throughout the set, loft dictates how far a person can hit a ball with any given club. Loft becomes a variable particularly in the shortest and longest clubs in the set, and the choices are almost unlimited.
Grip Size/Type:
The grip is the wheel that turns the gear (club face). Grip size too large can produce a slow turning club face and lead to the face pointed right of the target at impact. Too small and the face can be pointed left of the target line on a consistent basis. Grip options are incredibly diverse, choices are widely based on feel, but whenever possible, size should be based on the measurement from your wrist crease to the end of your longest finger.
Model or Brand:
Brand is brand. Some are good, some are really good. Testing brands and models against each other and measuring where the shots that you hit with them go, is one of the details that a club fitting will provide. An open mind, and a willingness to take a recommendation based on what is measured by TrackMan is the scientific method.
